Partnerships

HSMSE teams up with with numerous organizations, corporations, and institutes of higher learning to enrich the educational experiences of all our students. We are always looking for new and interesting opportunities to partner with organizations to enhance our programming, whether in STEM, Humanities or extracurricular.

HSMSE was founded as a collaboration between The NYC Department of Education and The City College of New York (CCNY). The City College of New York is The City University of New York’s flagship college in science, engineering and architecture, and is also noted for its excellence in the social science, the arts and humanities.

HSMSE is a partner school of the Goethe-Institut, one of 9 “FIT-Schulen” partners located in the US. The German cultural institute is active all over the world, promoting knowledge of the German language in foreign countries through its institutes and its support for around 500 partner schools. It cultivates international cultural cooperation and presents a comprehensive view of Germany. As a partner school, HSMSE receives numerous benefits from its relationship with Goethe-Institut within the framework of the “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) initiative, including summer study trips for a number of students and faculty members.

HSMSE’s Biomedical Research Program was designed and implemented in collaboration with scientists and physicians at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The two-year program consists of advanced laboratory experiences and a research internship in one of the hospital units such as cardiology, oncology, obstetrics and the autopsy suite.

HSMSE’s engineering courses were developed with Project Lead the Way. PLTW is a national program aimed to increase the quantity and quality of engineers and engineering technologists graduating from the country’s educational systems. Taking PLTW courses can help students decide whether an engineering-related career is right for them.

HSMSE is a member of NCSSS, The National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, which has over 100 member schools. The goal of NCSSS is to advance the efforts of those specialized schools whose primary purpose is to academically prepare students for leadership in mathematics, science, and technology.

Founded in 1995, PENCIL in collaboration with Highbridge Capital pioneered the idea of improving student achievement by developing and supporting long-term partnerships between businesses and public schools.
