On December 16, fourteen HSMSE students (along with Mr. Vu and Mr. Coulombe) met at Stuyvesant High School to compete at the Downtown Mathematics Invitational (DMI). DMI is one of the biggest high school math competitions in the city, with 57 teams of six competing in four rounds. HSMSE had two teams at DMI, Leichtmathletik and Parabrolads.
Some highlights:
- Leichtmathletik placed 7th out of all teams and 2nd out of 28 public school teams, beating every team from Brooklyn Tech, Hunter, and Bronx Science. Leichtmathletik was the only public school team to score a perfect 30 on the power round, and only three teams overall achieved this result. Aaron Wang had one of the top scores in the individual round, qualifying for the tiebreaker round, where he placed 18th.
- Parabrolads placed 23rd out of all teams, and 12th out of all public school teams. It beat every team from Bard, NEST+m, and Friends Seminary.
Thanks to Kim Martin-Shah and the PTA for providing essential support for the Math Team, and thanks to Mr. Jayson Vu, our terrific coach!
