Regent Exams and Targeted Instruction Week
- What
- Regent Exams and Targeted Instruction Week
- When
- 1/23/2024 – 1/26/2024
If your child does not have a Regents Exam to take this week specific to reasons provided below or has not been informed due to poor grades to attend for Targeted Instruction, they will NOT ATTEND school this week and therefore you can observe these days as vacation days.
Some students have Regents exams this week for the following reasons:
Wanting to increase their prior regents score
Making up a Missed Regents exam from last June
Individual circumstances communicated with a guidance counselor
Common Parent Questions:
1) How would I know if my child should report to school for a Regents exam or for Targeted Instruction?
Your child will be notified (as well as you) if they are invited to or expected to take an exam or attend Targeted Instruction. MOST STUDENTS DO NOT TAKE ANY REGENTS EXAMS THIS WEEK. HSMSE requires all students take Regents in June each year. If they miss that exam date or perform poorly, there would be a possibility that they are asked to retake that exam in January of the following year. 9th grade parents, if you have not received an e-mail from Ms. Patterson, your child DOES NOT need to take any exams this week. It is very rare that any Freshman student takes Regents during this week.
2) Which students would have targeted instruction? Students that are performing far below standards are selected by teachers and counselors and are then contacted by the school. Parents and students will be provided this information by January 15th.
3) Can we plan a vacation? If your child does not need to attend Targeted Instruction and they are not Taking a Regents exam, they DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL during Regents week in January.
If you have additional questions about Regents Exams and schedules for the week contact Ms. Ortiz at [email protected] and include your name, your child's name, your child's grade and osis# and the question of concern. She will respond or forward the question to the respective person best to address the question.
